About the event

Lunging your horse isn’t just about tiring them out before riding—it’s a crucial aspect of their overall training. Groundwork is where we establish communication and connection with our horses, setting the foundation for mutual understanding. Horses follow our intentions and respond to the alignment of soul, body, and mind.

Proper gymnastics and training are vital responsibilities for any rider. Through groundwork, we can prepare our horses both physically and mentally before riding. This includes explaining the rein (or rope) to the horse, encouraging them to follow pressure lightly, and laying the groundwork for what will be asked of them under saddle.

This workshop will guide you through:

  • Understanding your horse's priorities: Identifying asymmetries and balancing needs
  • Targeted exercises: Improving balance and addressing asymmetry, which can be applied under saddle
  • Defining communication and connection: Establishing a strong foundation on the ground that translates into your riding
  • Addressing resistance or behavioral issues: Exploring lunging exercises and, if necessary, incorporating bit work to enhance your horse’s training
